Meet Petro – One of JACK’s Youngest Rescue Survivors
In July 2026, JACK Primate Sanctuary welcomed one of its youngest chimpanzee rescues ever—baby Petro. His rescue was long and difficult. Kept confined for months before authorities were finally able to intervene, Petro had already endured unimaginable suffering during the first months of his life. He had been destined for the exotic pet trade before being rescued by the ICCN.
When Petro arrived at JACK, his condition was critical. He was diagnosed with cerebral malaria and was suffering from severe malnutrition. The illness left him with tremors, and his tiny body was extremely weak. Thanks to the dedication of JACK’s veterinary team and caregivers, Petro now receives 24-hour care, providing him with the constant medical attention, nutrition, comfort, and love he desperately needs.
Petro’s journey to recovery has only just begun.
